Over the course of the next 63 years, the Powder Horn has done just that. George Dieruf was a legendary hunter and outdoorsman. His real-life adventures are the stuff of fiction and spanned the lower 48, Canada, Alaska, and Africa. George’s collection of mounts from North America and Africa, now on display at the Powder Horn, must be seen to be believed. In a tribute to George and his family, hunting friends from all over have kindly chosen to put on display some amazing trophies of their own alongside George’s at the Powder Horn.

George Dieruf passed the Powder Horn torch to his sons, George, Jr., and Ivan, as well as George’s good friends Bill Beyl, Greg Byrne, and others who have helped to serve Powder Horn customers for many years. Not surprisingly, George and Ivan are highly accomplished hunters, competitive shooters, and outdoorsmen in their own right. You won’t find a more knowledgeable hunter and firearms expert in the country than George Dieruf, Jr. Many of the trophies taken by George, Jr., Bill and their friends are also on display at the store, and are only a small sampling of the combined experiences afield amassed by the multi-talented Dieruf family. And Bill Beyl, our gunsmith at the “Horn”, is one of the top competitive trap shooters in the nation, and a leading authority on fine shotguns and rifles.

In addition to world-class sporting goods, hunting apparel, camping, hiking, endurance mountaineering and optics carried in the store, the new Powder Horn Outfitters also carries a wide selection of ranchwear: Lucchese boots, Rand & Stetson hats, Filson, Woolrich, Schnee’s, Schaefer, McAlister, Stormy Kromer, and more, for both men and women. ph-apparel In the past year we’ve added nearly 8,000 square feet of retail space for ranchwear alone!

Powder Horn Outfitters also provides a fly-fishing outfitting service for the Gallatin, Madison, and Yellowstone Rivers.
